Welcome to The Frazer Theatre, Knaresborough
The Frazer Theatre is located just off the High Street, behind Zolshas, in Knaresborough, a small market town a few miles from Harrogate in North Yorkshire. It is owned and run by The Knaresborough Players, an amateur dramatics group who were formed in 1962. During the year we put on a number of plays and our ever popular Pantomime which is always a sell-out. For the past few years we have also been running The Knaresborough Film Theatre where, once a month, we show some of the latest comedy, action and children's films.
Our History
- We were formed in 1962.
- Early shows were performed at the local Trinity Church Hall.
- One of the first shows was the Pantomime "Cinderella". We have held a Pantomime every year since.
- We started performing our shows in the converted Ballroom of the old "Elephant and Castle" hotel which was situated on the High St.
- In 1984 we started fund raising in order to buy the theatre as we felt that a permanent home was the way forward for the society.
- Thanks to some very generous donations we raised the money we needed. The theatre was purchased and renamed "The Frazer Theatre" in honour of the previous owner who had supported the society for many years.
- We produce and perform two or three plays a year as well as the Pantomime.
- Over the years many local societies and individuals such as "The School of Speech and Drama" and the "FEVA" organisers have all made use of our theatre.
- In 2002 we started "The Knaresborough Film Theatre" showing some of the latest films.
