Blue Remembered Hills By Dennis Potter
Paper Zoo Theatre Company presents Blue Remembered Hills for ten performances only as part of the Company’s regional tour. Originally written for television, Blue Remembered Hills is a deceptively simple play about a group of eight year old children growing up in the Forest of Dean during the Second World War. Through their innocent eyes we see the strains of living with fear and uncertainty, as well as the petty rivalries and jealousies that fuel their games.
As the children bicker and play, their innocence is tainted by the shadow of violence leading to a tragic outcome.
Using their trademark blend of music, movement and humour, Paper Zoo presents an energetic performance of this moving tale of lost innocence.

Julia O’Keeffe, who directed the successful 2020Vision for last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, directs Dennis Potter’s Blue Remembered Hills, in a production performed by Bradford College staff and former students. Formed in 2005, Paper Zoo Theatre Company has developed a reputation for staging innovative and imaginative productions, as well as nurturing new, local talent. Previous Company member Laura Milnes recently graduated from Central School of Speech and Drama, and Ben Eagle will take up a coveted place at the same institution in September 2011. The Company currently includes Stuart Davies, Damien O’Keeffe, Julia O’Keeffe, David Peel and Kate Shackleton. Thus far they have performed A Christmas Carol (Dec 2005); Waiting For Godot (Sept 2006); Twelfth Night (Dec 2006); Funeral Games (May 2007); Much Ado About Nothing (July 2007); An Evening of Joe Orton (Sep 2007); a touring production of A Christmas Carol (Nov 2007 – Jan 2008); Valentines on St Valentine’s Day 2008; a touring production of Animal Farm (June 2008); the Company’s Edinburgh Fringe debut in August 2008 with Valentine; The Possibility of Intimacy (in the next hour and eleven minutes) (Nov 2008); The Bells by Leopold Lewis (Dec 2008) and achieved sell-out status for George Orwell’s 1984 in June 2009 at the National Media Museum. This was followed by a tour of Animal Farm and 1984. In 2010 the Company returned to the Edinburgh Fringe with 2020Vision, an original and thought-provoking glimpse into the not-so-distant future.
