The Carrivick Sisters

The Carrivick Sisters and Boden & Spiers offer up some of the delights of British folk music but The Carrivick Sisters are pick of the crop. There's is so much good American folk and country music that sometimes some fine homegrown music can easily be overlooked. The Carrivick Sisters play a variety of bluegrass instruments (essentially guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro and fiddle) and although they are still only 21, From The Fields is their fourth CD - and very enjoyable it is too. Martin Chilton, The Daily Telegraph

An Intimate evening withDick Gaughan

Kula Productions is please to bring Dick Gaughan to the Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough. I met Dick a number of times when I lived in Edinburgh as I designed covers for a few of his albums including the splendid Sail On. Of course Dick is probably best known for his 1989 Topic Records release Handful of Earth which is now rightly regarded as a bona fide classic. The photo on this page was taken for the inside cover of Sail On by Dave Harrold – at the time a young Edinburgh photographer who now seems to have dropped off the radar! It's a superb shot taken down on Leith's waterfront (where I use to live) and where Dick hails from. It captures the power and strength of not only Dick's singing and music but also of his left-wing political views – a true Scottish troubadour. John Haxby

An intimate evening with Heidi Talbot and band

A welcome return to this award winning artist Nominated Singer of The Year & Best Traditional Track ‘Willie Taylor’ BBC Folk Awards 2010 Tickets on line www.kula-productions.com or Pear Records Knaresborugh or Rock Steady Music Harrogate Ireland has long been a fount of great female singers, but Heidi Talbot’s breakthrough solo release, 2008’s In Love + Light, swiftly assured her promotion to the premier league. Its artfully chosen mix of traditional and contemporary material, reinvented classics and little-known gems, and above all Heidi’s achingly bittersweet, spun-gold voice, won glowing reviews across three continents, a US Indie Acoustic Award and a Best Female Vocalist nomination in the Irish Music Awards. With critics mooting comparisons as diverse as Björk, Enya, Linda Ronstadt, Norah Jones and Kirsty MacColl, the album received widespread radio airplay and has been followed by two years’ solid gigging, both as headline act and sought-after special guest. “What an impressive record this is. Very highly recommended.” Billboard

Kula productions in conjunction with the Knaresborough Players present "Fake Thackery" plus support from Union Jill

This joint venture between Kula Productions and the Knaresborough Players is a fund raiser to raise funds for a new roof....... John Watterson has performed the songs of Jake Thackray at festivals, concerts, clubs, after dinner venues and – most specially – to members of Jake’s family. Jake’s songs are exquisitely funny, satirical, incisive, irreverent, witty and gloriously un-PC – and sometimes all of these at the same time. Jake was a one off, his poetry broke the rules yet worked beautifully. He was a true craftsman of the English language, and his legacy of scores of songs continues to delight audiences of all ages today. John's appreciation and love of Jake Thackray's music is obvious to his audience. John’s performance is a celebration of the man that was Jake Thackray - his work, his genius and his very essence, an essence that the new age of music lovers are in danger of missing out on. John is a talented guitarist and vocalist and has that engaging quality that makes you want to listen to his performance. When you wrap these ingredients up in the songs of Jake Thackray the result is a highly entertaining, heartfelt tribute to one of the finest songwriters of the 20th century
